found below.
-Surviving The Great Depression
of nearly 10 years and
-World War11
plus everything after that and to be in the superb condition that it is would be a great piece of history to own. Hard to find item. Museum Piece. More details on history of horn
below:
Mellophone
While they are
pitched in F
, these instruments are much more trumpet-like in playing characteristics.
Like
previously mentioned, these horns respond best with mouthpieces similar
to a deep trumpet mouthpieces. While they can work with horn
mouthpieces, generally they won’t perform at their best.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–
Vienna horns
are
another type of single horn since they only have one slide per valve.
Vienna horns don’t use regular rotors like most French horns, instead,
they use special ‘pumpen valves’. These valves contribute to the Vienna
horns exceptionally smooth slurs.
While
Vienna horns are mostly played in the key of F, they do use a long loop
of tubing (called a crook) between the mouthpiece and the body of the
horn. This long loop can be replaced by a much smaller loop or a
straight tube to put the horn in the key of Bb or A to play especially
high parts.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–
Tested
briefly and produces sound from all three valves and all valves
function but will need cleaning, lubrication, and may need other work
for proper playability.
Updated12-17-20
Lubricated
valves and tubing slides. Added pictures. Very nice condition and have
not seen one of any brand of this age in such good condition but your
view may differ from mine.
I have not
found much info on this one and have not found one like it anywhere for
this date and model# except seems to be very rare and older professional
model. Found only newer 1950 s and up year models of same brand going
for $4,000 to $5,000
Very old around 1929 and very good condition for age but I am not a professional and sold as is.
They chart below shows a yellow highlighted Horn which is the Horn being sold here:
notes: This listing is intended to include only out of production instruments.
The dates listed represent what we have documented, but don’t necessarily mean the acutal productions ranges.

Sets of instruments by Makers will be periodically added to this table.
This listing is intended to include makers where the majority of their
model designations are known.
do not know if info in chart above is correct as far as the type, key, etc. but it is all I found online about this instrument.
—————————————————————————————————————————————
New info below I have found on newer model Viennese horn types which shows the
Detachable F crook
on the first image below. This is a different Brand of horn but shows the type and where the crooks are placed.
=======================================================================================================================
Between
1985 and 1987 the director of the Institut für Wiener Klangstil, Prof.
Gregor Widholm, carried out a comparative study between the Viennese
horn, the double horn in F/Bb and the triple horn in F/Bb/high f,
achieving new insights into the acoustic, playing and tonal
characteristics of the Viennese horn (
http://iwk.mdw.ac.at
):
The
findings of the Institut für Wiener Klangstil show that the Viennese
horn’s sound contains a greater number of harmonics and therefore has a
brighter sound when compared directly to the double horn, the most
commonly used horn. On the Viennese horn the musician can articulate
tied notes more softly and alter the instrument’s timbre more easily,
which gives him a greater range of musical expression. Played
fortissimo, Vienna horns are less conspicuous in the overall orchestra
sound than double horns.
Comparison between horns (from left to right): Viennese horn, double (French) horn in F/Bb, triple horn in F/Bb/high f
Why is the Viennese horn harder to play?
In
the initial phase of sound generation the Viennese horn requires more
energy than the double horn; in fact, the air column to be vibrated is
twice as long as that of the horn in high f (
triple horn
in F/Bb/high f). Passages with a large number of staccato notes are therefore very demanding.
In
the upper register greater care must be taken than on other horns to
apply the correct lip tension in order to avoid the dreaded “
squeak
”, which must nevertheless be counted as one of the Viennese horn’s lovable “peculiarities”.
The distinctive sound and playing characteristics of the Viennese horn are a result of its construction:
Bore
Compared
to the double horn, the Viennese horn has a narrower bore: the
cylindrical part of the bore has a diameter of about 10.8 mm compared to
11.5–13 mm on the double horn. Its bell and bell joint are also
narrower. The result, as pointed out above, is a larger number of
harmonics. The Viennese horn’s high harmonics rise more quickly than
those of the double horn, even in fast crescendo passages, which means
that the musician has a wider range of tone colors at his disposal.
Detachable F crook
The
crook is a piece of coiled tubing, which is detachable on the Viennese
horn but fixed on the double horn. By changing the crook, which accounts
for nearly a third of the total tube length, the instrument’s character
– i.e., its response, tone and intonation – can be altered.
Valves
The
Vienna valve is a twin-piston valve. The position of the valves on the
piston valve unit aids mellow formations of legato notes, which flow and
change very smoothly. In fact, in fast legato passages the notes sound
slightly blurred. On rotary valve instruments a short interval of noise
separates the individual notes from each other, so that even in fast
legato passages the impression of distinct notes is given.
